Rotterdam - your host city
Population 600.000 citizens, 100 km from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, 7 km from Rotterdam Airport.
Rotterdam was founded in the mid 13th century after a dam had been constructed in the River Rotte. Rotterdam received municipal rights in 1340. It is the second largest city of the Netherlands. In the years following World War II, Rotterdam has emerged as the most modern, internationally oriented, high-rise city of the Netherlands. The city can justifiably call itself one of the most popular congress destinations in the Netherlands. This is due to its excellent congress centers and event locations, the wide selection of four and five-star hotels, superb restaurants, vibrant nightlife and good accessibility. With an imposing skyline and landmark bridges, Rotterdam is a city to visit and to remember!

Travel and visa
Entry to the country is granted to all foreigners taking part in congresses organized in The Netherlands, regardless of their nationality. Delegates must, of course, meet the normal requirements, i.e. they must possess valid travel documents and sufficient means of support. Delegates requiring a visa for entry to The Netherlands are strongly advised to make their application in their home countries at least three months before the intended date of travel. Visa application procedures are easier when the acknowledgement of registration is included. Refunds cannot be made when visa applications are not granted.
Letter of invitation
Participants from some countries outside Europe will require a visa. Upon request the Congress office will send a letter of invitation (by postal mail) after receipt of the full payment of the registration fee. This invitation implies no obligation, financial or otherwise, by the ESBS 2009 Organizing Committee.
The Dutch Embassy accepts original letters only. Therefore the Congress office will NOT be able to send a letter of invitation by fax or e-mail. Please take this into consideration and send us your payment and request before February 1, 2009.
Liability and insurance
The organizers of the ESBS Congress in 2009 nor the congress office accept any liability for personal injury, loss or damage of property belonging, or additional expenses incurred to congress participants either during the congress or as a result of delays, strikes or any other causes. Participants are requested to make their own arrangements in respect of health and travel insurance.
